Online tutoring or e-tutoring refers to the method of providing educational assistance to students through teaching and instruction with the help of computers and internet. In online tutoring, student(s) and teacher(s) interact with each other by means of chat, white board application, email, VoIP etc using computers connected to the internet. Online tutoring could be defined as teaching, support, management and assessment of students on study programs that involve a significant use of online technologies.
Online tutoring is convenient and cost-effective. You don't have to take your child to his/her tutor driving all the way during the rush hours and your child gets the same personal attention from our highly qulaified professionals at a much lower rate compared to traditional tutoring.
Our online tutoring courses are intended as supplementary classes to a child’s school lessons, not a substitute. By studying with AtHome Tuition, students will considerably improve their knowledge and skills in their chosen subject(s). Students that are below average learners will become average, students that are average will become excellent learners, and excellent students will be able to excel and achieve truly outstanding results.
The student will be tested regularly to allow us to assess their strengths and weaknesses in their chosen subject. The academic director will design a challenging, highly personalized curriculum for the student, based on his or her evaluation results. The curriculum is specifically designed for each student, in order to address the areas that need the most improvement, while not neglecting other essential components of the subject. The student’s expectations will be set according to the standards of their own school curriculum.
AtHome Tuition offer courses to students studying at grade 3 up to grade 12. We also offer language (TEFL, IELTS) courses to non-native English speakers of any age.
In most cases, we recommend that students study for 2 hours, one-on-one, with their tutor, each week. In addition to this, we recommend that students partake in another two hours of computer aided study and/or testing each month. However, for weaker students who need additional hours of study, the child’s academic director will make any necessary recommendations to the child’s parents.
The virtual whiteboard is the most vital learning tool we use. Essentially, it is the same as a classroom whiteboard, only it is displayed on your computer screen. Both the student and teacher can write and draw on it by using a digital pen and a digital writing pad.
This is a list of everything you need:
A PC (with at least a Pentium II processor and windows 2000/XP/Vista) or an Apple MAC
A soundcard
At least one USB port available
At least a 56K modem. We recommend you to use a high speed connection such as Cable or DSL for the best performance
A headset with earphones and microphone
A digital pen and digital writing pad
We would ask our student’s parents to ensure that a distraction-free environment is provided. Parents will be reminded by email before each scheduled lesson one day in advance. Parents should ensure that their children can log onto AtHome Tuition a few minutes in advance of the scheduled lesson time, then wait for the tutor to log in and begin the lesson.
The academic director will prepare an initial status report for each student from the results of the child’s assessment test. The student’s knowledge in the chosen subject will be assessed and we will represent this is a graph that can be seen by both child and parent. This graph will be based on the number of correct and incorrect answers provided in the initial test. Subsequent tests (at least once a month) will be graded and represented on similar graphs and the students progress will be measured like this.
We operate a website specifically for our student’s parents. Parents are given a username and password and are able to log in anytime to check on their students tuition. Such information as progress reports, test results and general guidelines will be available from the parents website. Parents can also use this website to discuss anything regarding their child’s tutoring with the relevant tutor.
Of course. You can request for a demo through our demo page and have a look at the sophisticated software that will be used for online tutoring.
